Gunmen suspected to be armed herdsmen stormed Government Secondary School, Odugbo, in Benue State on Thursday, May 29, 2025, while students were taking their Senior Secondary School West African Examination Council (WAEC) exams.
According to counter-terrorism expert Zagazola Makama, the attackers arrived at approximately 1:20 p.m. and fired sporadically into the air, causing panic among students and staff.
An 80-man patrol unit from the Benue State Civilian Joint Task Force (PMF) quickly responded to the scene and successfully repelled the attackers.

The gunmen reportedly fled into a nearby bush after being overwhelmed by the security presence.

Fortunately, no casualties were recorded during the incident. Security operatives have since continued to comb the surrounding area to track down the fleeing suspects.
Authorities have urged students and residents to remain calm as investigations continue.
