In the early hours of Friday, suspected gunmen launched an attack on a police checkpoint at Ebiya Bridge in the Hilltop area of Ebonyi Local Government in Ebonyi State.

According to sources in the area, six policemen were brutally killed, and two girls, suspected to be civilians, were also killed during the violent attack.

According to checks, it is not the first time such an incident has occurred at the Ebiya Bridge police checkpoint.

On November 17, 2023, a similar attack took place, resulting in the murder of two police officers who were on patrol and were also victims of suspected gunmen.

Despite the severity of the latest incident, the Ebonyi Police Command has yet to confirm it.

Also, numerous calls made to the Acting Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Joshua Ukandu have been unanswered.
