A group of armed men have attacked attacked a police station in Anambra State.

According to reports, the armed men had attacked the police station by opening fire on the officers as they attempted to breach the police station.

Confirming the incident, the spokesperson of the police command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said the attack happened in the early hours of Tuesday on the Oba Police Divisional Headquarters and Oba Civic Center in Anambra State.

The armed men also threw petrol bombs at the building, which resulted in a fire that fatally injured a corporal.

The fire was eventually extinguished with the help of other officers on duty and the joint security team.

Also reacting to the incident, the CP, Nnaghe Obono Itam condemned the assault, while vowing to catch the perpetrators.
