Gunmen suspected to be terrorists have reportedly killed six soldiers during an attack on Tati village in Takum Local Government Area of Taraba state.

According to report, the gunmen invaded the village in large number, at about 10pm on Tuesday, May 10.

They were said to have engaged the troops of 93 battalions in a fierce gun battle. But the gunmen overpowered the troops, killing six soldiers, and abducting one commanding officer –a lieutenant colonel.

The casualties according to the army are, Dauda Tata (7NA/44/4046), Yusuf Salihu (95NA/40/5031), Ndubuise Okonkwo (96NA/42/6911), Abdullahi Ibrahim, Emmanuel Jerry (14NA/72/14051) and Sani Isa as the casualties.

According to Military sources the gunmen also ambushed and attacked troop reinforcement deployed from Marraraba, but that the troops carried out anti-ambush drills to fight their way out. Two gunmen were reportedly killed while others escaped with gunshot wounds.

One AK-47 rifle, two AK-47 magazines, 19 rounds of 7.62mm(SP), one pistol, seven rounds of 9mm ammo, one locally-made gun, three MCs, charms and a sum of N15,120, were recovered.

A search and rescue operation is on for the commanding officer who is reportedly abducted during the attack.

Meanwhile, one Waziri who escaped the attack said he was told that the gunmen were on military uniform.

“THANK GOD FOR SAVING MY LIFE TODAY. I was driving early from Takum back to jalingo. Clamping a hill close to Tatti takum , I met someone stop me and told me that unknown gun men with army uniform are attacking Tatti village. I had to reverse back to Takum. Glory be to God, i just pass now safely.this is pictures after the attack has been repel by kuteb youth in Tatti village” he wrote.
