Bandits attacked the staff quarters of National Tuberculosis and Leprosy Training Centre (NTLTC) in Zaria in the early hours of Sunday 4th of July, 2021 and succeeded in kidnapping seven persons.

The Police Divisional Headquarters around the Centre was also said to have been attacked.

Dr. Sheu Labaran, the Principal of the NTLTC in Zaria Local Government of Kaduna state however, escaped being abducted.

Sources say that the seven kidnap victims include 5 women and two men.

The bandits reportedly struck around 12:30am on Sunday and whisked away five workers, including two nursing mothers totaling seven.

“The armed bandits came in large number around 12.30 am and cordoned the area to avoid any re-enforcement,” a source said.

According to the report, Police Divisional Headquarters around the Centre was also said to have been attacked.

The school Chief Security Officer noted that the gunmen also destroyed the fence of the Police Divisional Headquarters Saye, with several gunshots.

“The Saye Divisional Police headquarters was attacked with several gun shots as well as damaging the division’s operational Hilux van.”

“The attack on the Police Division was aimed at stopping them from rescuing the victims at the staff quarters.The bandits targeted the principal of the centre. His residence was badly damaged before they could have access but he was not not there , ” the source said.

The gunmen outnumbered the police and that they could not get support in time thereby, compelling them to take cover.

Also, Dr. Sheu Labaran, the Principal of the NTLTC in Zaria Local Government of Kaduna state has escaped being abducted as disclosed by Mallam Shuraihu Ahmed, the school Chief Security Officer while speaking with blueprint in Zaria on Sunday.

Mallam Shuraihu Ahmed also added that the gunmen invaded and vandalized the School principal’s house in a bid to abduct him too. Fortunately, he was not in the house at the time they stormed the quarters.

According to the police, investigation has been opened into the attack.
