The Ondo State Police Command has confirmed the kidnapping of a pregnant woman in Ayede community, Akure North Local Government Area, triggering an intensive security operation to rescue the victim and track down those responsible.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, confirmed the incident on Wednesday in Akure, stating that tactical police teams had been deployed immediately after the report was received.

According to him, security operatives are working round the clock to ensure the safe rescue of the pregnant woman and the arrest of the kidnappers.

“Upon receipt of the report, the command has deployed tactical teams to the scene,” Jimoh said.

“Efforts are ongoing towards the rescue of the victim and apprehension of the perpetrators of the crime.”

A resident of Ayede community, who spoke anonymously to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), disclosed that the abduction occurred on Tuesday evening around 7:40pm, just a few metres away from the Federal Secretariat, Igbatoro, along Alagbaka Extension in Akure.

The source identified the abducted victim as Mrs Mary Jesulayomi, who was reportedly taken away by armed men.

The resident further revealed that another victim, identified as Mrs Ogunleye Mese, aged 85, was also kidnapped during the attack but was later released by the assailants.

However, her husband, Pa Ogunleye Mese, aged 90, sustained serious injuries during the incident and is currently receiving medical attention.

The incident has heightened fear among residents, especially due to its proximity to major government facilities, with calls for increased security patrols in the area.
