Gunmen Kidnaps Driver, 18 Passengers In Akwa Ibom | Daily Report Nigeria

Locals have been put in a state of tension after a bus driver and his passengers were abducted by gunmen.

According to reports, the abduction, which involved an Amwa Ibom Transport Company (AKTC), that had loaded the bus from Uyo terminal on a Port Harcourt, Rivers state-bound journey saw the abduction of a driver and his 18 passengers along the Azumini boundary between Akwa Ibom and Abia states.

According to an eyewitness who pleaded anonymity, the gunmen reportedly shot in the air to make the car come to an halt, before other gang member appeared from the bush.

“The driver was first to come down. Other passengers were ordered to follow immediately. The kidnappers moved all of them into the bush, their whereabouts not known till now”, he narrated.

Speaking in the incident, the Amwa Ibom state police Public Relations Officer, ASP Timfon John said the police force have been placed around the location, in response to the incident said to have occurred Wednesday last week.

 

“That incident happened along the Azumini axis of the road after Etim Ekpo Local Government Area. All I can say is that the Police is still monitoring the situation now”, the PPRO stated
