Victims shot inside their homes as attackers operated unchallenged
No fewer than 15 persons were killed on Thursday night in two separate attacks carried out by gunmen in Mangu and Bokkos Local Government Areas of Plateau State, raising fresh concerns over the worsening security crisis in the region.
The assailants reportedly stormed Manja community in Chakfem District of Mangu and Tangur village in Bokkos LGA, unleashing terror on residents and opening fire indiscriminately before escaping without any confrontation.
Residents confirmed that the Tangur attack occurred around 9pm when villagers had retired indoors, while the assault on Manja took place earlier in the evening.
According to eyewitnesses, the gunmen broke into homes and shot victims at close range, operating freely for several minutes before disappearing.

Director of Culture for the Mwaghavul Development Association and Coordinator of the Pilot Science IDP Camp in Mangu, Shohotden Mathias Ibrahim, confirmed to that seven people were killed in Manja and several others injured.
Local sources in Bokkos told newsmen that eight persons were killed in Tangur, describing the attack as coordinated and deliberate.
As of Friday morning, community leaders in Bokkos were yet to respond to inquiries.

The Plateau State Police Command’s spokesperson, Alfred Alabo, had not responded to calls or messages from our correspondent at the time of filing this report.
The latest killings come weeks after a similar wave of deadly attacks in Benue, Kwara, and other North-Central states, further compounding concerns over government’s handling of the rural security emergency in Nigeria’s Middle Belt.
