In another development a youth leader of the Ofuoma community in Ughelli North Local Government Area was on Saturday killed following a leadership crisis that erupted in the community.

It was gathered that many people sustained varying degrees of injuries in the crisis.

The crisis which reportedly erupted on Saturday was said to be an aftermath of a tussle between two prominent leaders over the control of the central executive of the community.

According to sources, commercial activities in the entire locality has been crippled.

The deceased youth leader identified as Mr. Felix Edenughe, who was said to be a factional vice chairman of the youths in the community, was pursued, captured and killed by a mob loyal to one of the community leaders.

The deceased was reportedly tortured to death in the presence of his wife.

A community source who would not want his identity in print said that the issue at stake was before a customary court with suit no. unacc/139/2021.

The source said, “Currently, houses and properties have been destroyed, many people injured and are receiving treatment at various hospitals as none of these leaders are ready to down tools.

“We can not give the exact number of people that were injured while some are in hospital.

“One person, Felix Edenughe, the youths vice was confirmed dead and it was his corpse that was rushed to the police station.”

When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer for Delta State Command, Edafe Bright, confirmed the incident saying that one person died in the commotion.

“They are killing themselves because they are fighting over youth leadership. They should not blame the police when they are having their community crisis,” the PPRO said.
