Gunmen on Thursday, August 18, killed a Lawyer, identified as Barrister Benedict Torngee Azza in Gusau, the Zamfara State capital.

It was said that the lawyer was killed while trying to escape from the gunmen who wanted to abduct him at his residence in Saminaka area, bye-pass, Gusau.

According to a source, he made an attempt to escape by rushing to his car and driving off into the main road, however, the assailants pursued him and shot him three times.

The Zamfara State chapter of the Nigeria Bar Association (NBA) confirmed the killing of the lawyer in a statement on Friday by the chairman, Barrister Junaidu Abubakar

According to the chairman, he received three different phone calls on Thursday 18th August 2022 from his colleagues informing him that Barrister Azza was shot dead by unknown gunmen and his body was lying on the road side along Bye-pass near FRSC office, Gusau, the state capital.

“Immediately after receiving the information, I rushed to the scene where I met our colleagues, Barrister Abdullahi Ibrahim and Barrister Ibrahim Sani Gusau with much number of security personnel (police and soldiers)

” I saw Barrister Azza’s dead body lying in cold blood on the road. I also saw his accident vehicle (Lexus Jeep) by the road side.

“While we were there, Federal Road Safety Corps’s (FRSC) personnel came to the scene with a body bag in which the dead body was deposited and taken by the police to Yariman Bakura Specialists Hospital, Gusau where his dead body was deposited in the maturity.

“According to the information, Barrister Azza was shot dead by 2 unknown gunmen suspected to be kidnappers who came on a motorcycle.

“The information has it that, the gunmen wanted to kidnap him at his house situate at Saminaka Area, Behind Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Headquarters, Bye-pass, Gusau but he was able to escaped, drove his vehicle and run to the road side and the gunmen pursued him and shot him dead.

“Neighbours of the deseased said they heard some gun shots in the area and after a while, they also heard loud sound of a vehicle accident.

“When they came out and rushed to the scene, they saw Barrister Azza opened his vehicle’s door, came out and walked with is legs to the main road where he sat down and he started bleeding and he died instantly.

“Azza was said to have been shot three times by the unknown gunmen who, after the shootings, they took to their heel when they saw people coming to the scene,” he said.
