A group of unknown gunmen has invaded the medium federal correctional facility centre in Kabba, Kogi State, and freed hundreds of prisoners, also killing soldiers on duty.

The attack took place at the facility located on the Kabba-Lokoja highway, Kabba/Bunu Local Government Area of Kogi, on Monday, September 13.

It was gathered that the gunmen killed the military men, before attacking the prison workers, afterward freeing hundreds of prisoners.

Over 100 of the inmates have reportedly been rearrested, while an unspecified number voluntarily returned.

Confirming the incident, the Assistant Inspector-General of Police Zone 8, Ayuba Edeh, said the State Commissioner of Police and other heads of security agencies have swung into action.
