Gunmen suspected to be armed robbers have killed Dr. Otote Osaikhuwuomwan, an optometrist with the University of Benin Teaching Hospital, UBTH.
The gunmen reportedly invaded his residence at Reuben Agho Street, Ugbor Quarters, GRA, Benin City in the early hours of Monday to commit the act.
The robbers gained access into Osaikhuwuomwan’s apartment by cutting off the burglary proof. He was with his heavily pregnant wife when the incident happened.

Sources say the deceased rushed to prevent the robbers from gaining access to the bedroom after being notified that intruders had entered the house.
“Following the skirmish that ensued, the robbers were said to have shot through the door and the bullet hit him on the chest and thereafter fell down and started struggling for his life in the pool of his blood while the hoodlums were carting away valuables.
“However, his pregnant wife, who was witnessed to the attack started screaming for help after the armed robbers had left with a laptop, mobile phones and other belongings.
“Dr. Osaikhuwuomwan was later rushed to the University of Benin Teaching Hospital, his place of work by neighbours at about 6.00am where he was pronounced dead,” the source said.
The remains of Dr. Otote Osaikhuwuomwan has since been deposited at the UBTH morgue.
The Edo State Police Public Relations Officer, Kongtons Bello confirmed the report, saying the command received the report and has opened an investigation into the matter.
