The move by the Rivers State Assembly to impeach Governor Simi Fubara was greeted with gunshots on Monday morning.
Daily Report Nigeria reports that shots were fired by security operatives as the lawmakers sat to kick-start processes to impeach Fubara at the Assembly Complex.
However, 23 lawmakers, including the Speaker, Martin Amaewhule, resolved to begin the process despite the gunshots.
Leader of the House, Edison Ehie and other lawmakers thought to be loyal to the governor were first suspended before the process kicked-off.

The Rivers Assembly Complex was razed by a mysterious fire on Sunday night as moves to impeach the governor heightened.
Lawmakers were seen driving out of the assembly premises at about 8:15 am after the sitting and escorted by heavy security.
