The dream of every sports personnel is to participate in the Olympics and not just to participate but win medals. Last weekend, Mykayla Skinner, a U.S gymnast who dreams of winning an Olympic medal in her first and maybe last Olympics, nearly crashed. After top gymnast Simone Biles withdrew from the vault final, it was her opportunity at a comeback and indeed a glorious comeback it was.
August 1, which was glorious, was a marvelous day for Skinner, who had in mind to retire after the Olympics, triumphed as she won her first-ever silver medal.
“Hey, it’s Mykayla Skinner, your vault silver medalist. So cool!” as the silver medalist said in an Instagram video uploaded by Team USA. “I just wanted to thank all my friends, family and fans for everything you have done. You guys have seriously been supporting me through it all, through the ups and downs. Thank you for never giving up on me.”
In continuation, “ I know you guys all back home have been cheering and been so excited once the news came out that I’d be in the vault lineup, and you knew that I’d wanted this so, so bad so thank you all so, so much. I love you, and all dreams come true, so don’t forget, never give up.”
Simone, who withdrew from the final due to her mental health challenge, wrote on her Instagram story.
“ Go @mykaylaskinner2016; I’m so freaking proud of you.”
Her recent withdrawal has made it a total of five out of six Olympic finals.
