As odd as it might seem, the professional sex workers in Zimbabwe have carried out over the hardship in the land, following the scarcity of condoms.

In recent interviews with the press, they’ve lamented at how they bkw have to result in using DIY materials in place of condoms due to its shortage in many communities in the country.

Reporting this, HealthTimes noted that although the government has debunked rumours of shortage, numerous communities such as Epworth, Mutare, Masvingo, Harare, and Seke are experiencing are seriously complaining.

Confirming this to the publication, the founder of a sex-worker led organization, Springs of Life, Precious Musindo ha said most sex workers now use baby socks as makeshift female condoms.

She said;

Currently, we are facing a challenge accessing condoms. Supplies are limited, so as s3x workers, we are opting to use newborn baby socks. You fold them, insert them, and they prevent fluids and sperm from reaching the cervix,”

She further explained that the workers use the socks, which they tie to prevent sperm from reaching the Cervix and was then afterwards to be reused.

S3x workers are also struggling to access healthcare services. Given the current economy, sometimes we go home empty-handed because business is bad. Even when someone contracts an STI, many choose to ignore it and continue working just to earn a living,” Musindo added.
