The North East Development Commission (NEDC) has announced its immediate distribution of palliatives to residents in order to alleviate the impact of rising food costs across the country.
The Chairman of the Commission, Maj Gen Paul Tarfa (rtd), revealed the development in Abuja on Thursday.
The initiative aligns with the efforts of the Federal Government, led by President Bola Tinubu, to mitigate the hardships faced by people nationwide.
Tarfa specified that the distribution would include 300,000 bags of rice, 200,000 cartons of spaghetti and macaroni, 100,000 cartons of sugar, and 100,000 bags of branded mats.

Also, the relief package comprises 100,000 branded blankets, 100,000 sets of men’s clothing (shedda), 100,000 women’s wrappers, 100,000 pieces of children’s clothing, and 100,000 cartons of vegetable oil.
It added that all ongoing road projects across the states will be completed, and that the 500 housing units for the rehabilitation of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) will also be finalized.
Furthermore, the NEDC aims to enhance transportation and employment opportunities within the zone by procuring and deploying e-vehicles in the six states.
The above measures intend to reduce transport fares and benefit the youth population.
