  • Insists that SPDC Waste Disposal line is 7KM away from Odimodi.

The youths of Ogulagha Community in Ogulagha kingdom, Burutu Local Government Area of Delta State, has faulted and debunked an online publication made by the youth president of Odimodi Community, Mr Akin DC wherein he claimed that the SPDC waste disposal line alongside the Forcados Terminal were “located in Odimodi Community.”

In a statement signed by the president of Ogulagha community youths, Mr Anthony Okilo Waterwei, the body stated that Mr Akin’s claims were not true in their entirety.

Mr Anthony who commended Mr Akin’s efforts in seeking the “cause and source” of the dead fishes in the rivers, explained that Odimodi has always being am impacted community and never a host community of the SPDC.

The president further called on the general public to disregard Akin’s publication, stating that the SPDC waste disposal line is 7km away from Odimodi community.

The statement also warned Mr Akin DC and others from spreading false information that would mislead the gullible public in the future.

The statement Reads in full;

“The death of fishes found floating on our sea and shorelines particularly in Ogulagha kingdom, neighboring kingdoms and villages in Burutu and Warri South West LGAs, Delta State and other parts of Niger Delta region is not new to us and even the Government.

“We want to thank God that one of our neighbours in the person of the youth president of Odimodi Community, Mr Akin DC has made efforts to find the cause and source of the dead fishes.

“We are pleased with your findings and doggedness as regards the cause of the dead fishes. it was a good one but, we wish to draw your attention to paragraph three (3) of the said publication stating that the “dead fishes were caused as a result of SPDC’s Hazardous chemicals discharged into our sea through their waste Disposal line in ODIMODI FORCADOS TERMINAL” which we the Ogulagha Community youths find as not true, false claim and misleading.

“For the sake of clarity and to educate you of your Ignorance, we want to categorically state it that Odimodi Community is never a host to SPDC but, just an impacted Community.

“We find your statement worrisome and incorrect because, Ogulagha Community in Ogulagha Kingdom, is the legitimate host to SPDC and FORCADOS TERMINAL where the water disposal line is also located.

“We hereby call on the general public to disregard such a misleading publication as Odimodi community is about 7KM far away from the SPDC water disposal line and hereby warn Mr Akin DC to decease from such act as we will not take it from him or any other group persons next time”

Recall that Daily Report Nigeria had reported the emergence of dead fishes and other aquatic lives in the Ogulagha rivers has a result of the alleged release of hazardous chemicals into the waters by the Shell Petroleum Development Company, SPDC.
