Protest in Abuja

Commercial motorcycle operators popularly referred to as Okada riders have taken to the streets of Abuja in heavy protest, Daily Report Nigeria can confirm.

The protest which took place on Sunday morning, created a heavy tension among residents in the satellite town of Karu.

The action of the riders has forced many residents to stay indoors, as the protesters were seen destroying vehicles and attacking innocent individuals.

Also, many churches in the area locked their gates and asked members to remain inside the church so as not to be caught in the protest.

According to witnesses, a combination of soldiers and policemen have since been deployed to the area to maintain law and order.

The riders were reported to be battling the security operatives with with stones and other weapons.

Our source say communities like Jikwoyi, Kurudu, Orozo, Karshi among others in the area are trapped as residents and motorists have been asked to keep off the route until normalcy is restored.
