Heavy security presence took over the Kano State Government House on Monday as speculation grew over a possible defection of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf to the All Progressives Congress (APC). The development has heightened political tension across the state, even as no official confirmation has been made by the governor or his aides.

Security operatives were deployed in large numbers around the Kano State Government House following reports that Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf may be preparing to defect from his current political platform to the APC.

Journalists who visited the area observed a combined team of officers from the Nigeria Police Force and the Department of State Services (DSS) stationed around the seat of power.

At least seven Armoured Personnel Carriers (APCs) were positioned at strategic locations, including the main entrance of the Government House and the nearby roundabout leading into the complex.

Security checks were also tightened, with visitors and government officials subjected to strict identification and screening before being allowed access.

Although the governor has not made any public statement regarding the alleged defection, the unusual security buildup has continued to fuel speculation within Kano’s political circles.

A source who spoke to Daily Trust said: “The level of security here today is unusual. Something political is clearly happening, even if nothing has been officially announced.”

As of the time of filing this report, the Kano State Government has yet to issue a formal response to the reports.
