Hippopotamus Attack, Kills Pregnant Woman in Makurdi

A wild hippopotamus hason Tuesday killed a pregnant woman near the old bridge where the Benue River crosses through Makurdi, the state capital.

There are two bridges on River Benue in Makurdi- the old and the new bridge.

According to an eyewitness, the victim travelled to the island with other traders to buy vegetables for commercial purposes when she was attacked at the shore of the river.

The woman, whose identity was not clear, was being ferried in an engine boat, which developed a fault and was transferred to a wooden boat.

The attacked boat was broken into pieces with the victim drowned, it was learnt.
However, a search party was instituted and her body was recovered on Wednesday.
