According to the statement, the destruction exercise was supervised by DC Bashir Lawal Balarabe, alongside other Hisbah commanders from the Funtua zone.

Items destroyed included 75 cartons of assorted alcoholic drinks and three jerrycans of Gogoro, a locally brewed alcoholic beverage.

“The exercise is part of our continuous efforts to curb practices that contradict Islamic teachings and to protect the moral values of society,” the statement said.

The Hisbah Board explained that the operation was carried out in line with its mandate to enforce Sharia law in parts of Katsina State and discourage acts such as alcohol consumption, gambling, and other behaviours considered immoral under Islamic principles.

While Hisbah operates alongside conventional security agencies, the board stressed that its role focuses mainly on moral guidance, counseling, and community enforcement rather than criminal prosecution.

However, the activities of Hisbah have continued to generate mixed reactions, especially from critics who argue that destroying alcohol and arresting civilians infringes on personal freedoms.

“The destruction of these items is aimed at curbing acts that go against Islamic teachings and safeguarding societal moral values,” the Hisbah Board stated.
