Football star Cristiano Ronaldo has achieved yet another milestone in his career by becoming the first-ever athlete with 500 million followers on social media. The undisputed king on and off the field, Ronaldo is the most followed celebrity on Instagram and has over 261 million followers.

On Twitter, the Juventus star is followed by more than 91 million users. He is close to achieving the 100-million mark on the micro-blogging site. Ronaldo is also popular on Facebook and has over 125 million likes on his official page. Ronaldo is quite active on social media and mints millions through endorsements on various platforms.
With a following of 261 million on Instagram, Ronaldo holds a strong lead over the likes of Dwayne The Rock Johnson, Lionel Messi, Neymar and other athletes. The Rock, who was a WWE superstar before entering Hollywood, has 217 million followers on the platform. He is only one of the two athletes with over 200 million followers. Messi has 183 million followers while Neymar has 146 million followers on Instagram.
Ronaldo’s domination can be adjudged by the fact that he has more followers than 20 EPL clubs combined. The EPL clubs have a joint following of more than 159 million. Ronaldo holds a lead of nearly 100 million.
Like Instagram, Ronaldo is also the most followed athlete on Facebook. Overall, he sits at the 3rd spot, just below Facebook’s own official page (214 million) and a South Korean company (159.82 million). Messi has over 90 million likes on his FB page.
Ronaldo may not have crossed the 100 million mark on Twitter but he is the most followed athlete on that platform as well. In fact, he is the only athlete in the top 20 list.
