Prof Ali Pate, Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare has announced a forthcoming adjustment in wages for Nigerian health professionals.
The move is expected to bring relief to healthcare workers who have long been demanding better compensation and working conditions.
Speaking on Channels Television’s May 29 Special program, Pate hinted at a salary increase, stating, “An adjustment in compensation for Nigerian workers is forthcoming.”

His declaration comes as a welcome respite for health professionals who have been grappling with low wages, unpaid hazard allowances, and other grievances.

The healthcare sector has been plagued by industrial actions, with many professionals seeking opportunities abroad.
However, Pate revealed that President Bola Tinubu’s administration has implemented decisive policies to address these issues, and some professionals who had left Nigeria are now seeking to return.
According to the Minister, Nigeria is not alone in facing human resources challenges in the health sector, as countries like the United Kingdom (UK), and the United States (US) also grapple with similar problems.
