Edo State Governor-elect, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has made his first key appointment, naming seasoned journalist Fred Itua as his Chief Press Secretary.

With just 24 hours left until his swearing-in ceremony, Okpebholo confirmed the appointment of Itua, who is set to assume the role on November 12, 2024.

Itua, a former Assistant Political Editor at The Sun newspaper, brings years of expertise in political reporting and public communication to the new administration.

“I am pleased to announce the appointment of Fred Itua as my Chief Press Secretary. His wealth of experience in journalism and his commitment to high ethical standards will be invaluable as we work to ensure effective and transparent communication with the people of Edo State,” Okpebholo said in a statement on Monday.

Itua’s appointment marks the first official move by Okpebholo’s incoming administration, which is already making strides to establish a clear communication framework ahead of the governor’s inauguration.

The new press secretary’s extensive background in the media will help shape the state government’s narrative, particularly as Okpebholo seeks to fulfill his electoral promises.

A renowned journalist with a reputation for integrity and clarity in his reporting, Itua’s role will involve managing media relations, coordinating press briefings, and crafting public statements for the governor’s office.
