  • The house of representative deputy whip has passed away.

  • The deceased passed away at the age of 59

  • The deputy whip was said to have had a short witness, which later resulted to this tragedy.

The deputy chief whip of the House of representative, Adewunmi Onanuga has passed away.

The lawmaker, popularly known as Ijaya was a member of the ruling All Progressive Congress, APC, and has been described as being intellectual, passionate and humble.

Ijaya represented the Ikenne/Sagamu/Remo North federal constituency of Ogun state before her death.

Confirming the demise in a statement released on Wednesday night, January 15, to Legit.ng, Akin Rotimi, the spokesperson of the lower legislative chamber, said the deceased passed away at the age of 59.

 

The statement reads in part;

It is with profound sorrow that the house of representatives announces the passing of Rt. Hon. Adewunmi Oriyomi Onanuga, who, until her demise, served as the Deputy Chief Whip of the House, representing the Ikenne/Sagamu/Remo North Federal Constituency of Ogun state. 

 

She passed away earlier today, January 15, 2025, after a brief illness. “Representative Onanuga, born on December 2, 1965, was a dedicated public servant, a visionary leader, and a passionate advocate for her constituents. 

 

Affectionately known as ‘ _Ijaya_,’ Rep. Onanuga’s intellect, passion, humility, and drive for excellence earned her admiration among her colleagues and constituents alike. “Her impactful contributions to Nigeria’s political landscape reflected her passion for creating a better society and her tireless dedication to public service. 

we mourn the loss of this vibrant and committed lawmaker, whose life was devoted to improving the lives of Nigerians – especially her constituents – her legacy of service and dedication will continue to inspire future generations.” 

 

Man, 54, Remanded For Defiling 12-Year-Old Girl

A man has been remanded in prison, for rape.

According to reports, the suspect allegedly defiled a minor in Lagos state. He was remanded in prison pending the next year in February.
