How 2023 AMVCA Opening Night Celebrated African Culture

The Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) Opening Night and Cultural Day event at the Federal Palace Hotel and Casino in Lagos was a grand celebration of African culture.

The event was held on Thursday, preceding the 9th edition of the AMVCA which was scheduled to hold on Saturday, May 20th in Lagos.

The event was a great success, and it kicked off a series of activities leading up to the main event.

Dr Busola Tejumola, the Executive Head of Content and West Africa Channels at MultiChoice Nigeria stated that this year’s edition of the AMVCAs was aimed at raising the bar in recognizing and rewarding talents in the African film and television industry.

The focus was on promoting excellence and creativity in the industry, and the event promises to be a great success.

A statement from the event read:

Last year, we had an eight-day lineup of activities leading to the Award Night. This year will be no different. We have decided to sustain the momentum by bringing back all the activities. The only difference is that they will all take place within three days.”

The Opening Night and Cultural Day event was followed by the ‘Runway Show and Nominee Gala’ on Friday, May 19.

This year’s runway competition would offer cash prizes and the opportunity to work with the brand team of Pepsi, one of the brands they set to create innovative designs for on the runway. The celebration would end with the award night on Saturday, May 20.

Also, the award show would air live on May 20 across all Africa Magic channels on DStv and GOtv, starting from 4 pm WAT. Zozibini Tunzi, the South African model, and IK Osakioduwa, the Nigerian TV star, would host the award ceremony.

Viewers were encouraged to tune in and watch the show.
