  • President Bola Tinubu revealed that he almost withdrew from the 2023 presidential election due to the economic hardships in Nigeria at the time.

President Bola Tinubu has disclosed that he nearly abandoned his 2023 presidential ambition due to the economic hardships gripping Nigeria at the time.

Speaking at a special Iftar event held in his honor at the Presidential Villa on Saturday night,

Tinubu recounted a moment of doubt when a close relative’s plea for financial assistance made him question his pursuit of the presidency.

According to Tinubu, the relative came to his living room around 3:30 a.m. and asked for N50,000 to buy food for their uncle.

The relative expressed frustration, stating, “The currency is gone because of you. People are jumping over bank counters due to the cash crunch. Even our wealthy uncle doesn’t have N10,000.

What are you running for?” Tinubu replied, “I am running for President, not for you and our uncle.” He gave the relative the money, but the relative later admitted to keeping most of it, giving their uncle only N10,000.
