How Man Sold 5-Year-Old Child To Couple in Rivers

A man identified as Promise Thompson has been sentenced to death by hanging for armed robbery and child theft.

Thompson was sentenced by a high Court in Porthacourt, Rivers State.

He (Thompson) and his accomplice, Beatrice Ogbunka, stood trial on a three-count of armed robbery, kidnapping and child theft.

The duo were accused of shooting one Chidiebere Ogbugu and stealing his five-year-old child.

This incident was said to have happened on October 25, 2018, in Rumuolumeni, Obio/ Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State.

Beatrice fled the state after she was granted bail by the police.

Delivering judgement, the presiding judge, Justice Sika Henry-Aprioku, said the prosecution counsel proved that Thompson took the child to Abia State where he sold him to a syndicate who further sold the child to another syndicate.

Justice Henry-Aprioku also sentenced one Chisom Lucky to seven years imprisonment while her husband, Lucky got a 10-year sentence for child trafficking.

They were both sentenced for buying the child from Thompson and selling him off afterward.
