Abia State Governor Alex Otti has said that Nigeria spent about N7.8 trillion in food imports
Otti stressed the need for the country to embrace agricultural ventures to address food insecurity.
He revealed that Nigeria spent a staggering N7.8 trillion on food imports over the past six years.
Speaking at a capacity-building training program for 300 agricultural trainees in Nassarawa State, the Governor explained that agriculture is crucial for food security, job creation, and socio-economic stability.

According to him, Nigeria’s abundant arable land makes it unnecessary to rely heavily on food imports, which is a drain on the country’s resources.
He encouraged the trainees to leverage the opportunity to acquire knowledge and skills, become ambassadors of the state, and drive agricultural transformation.
Furthermore, Otti stated that the state government will cover all expenses for their training, from inception to completion.
