Former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo informed leaders of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party that he will not return to the party.

Olusegun Obasanjo, 84, stated this during a visit to his residence in Abeokuta, Ogun State, by a PDP delegation led by the party’s National Chairman, Iyorchia Ayu, four former governors, and members of the party’s National Working Committee.

Former Governors Sule Lamido (Jigawa), Olusegun Mimiko (Ondo), Liyel Imoke (Cross River), and Donald Duke are among those on the team, as is Peter Obi, the PDP’s Vice-Presidential candidate in the 2019 election (Cross River).

Taofeek Arapaja, Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (South), and other party officials were among those in the entourage.

He stated that the party would always need his fatherly advice on Nigerian governance.

Obasanjo served as Nigeria’s first President from 1976 to 1979. Following his incarceration, Obasanjo was elected President of Nigeria from 1999 to 2007 on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party.

After a feud with ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, he publicly tore his PDP membership card in February 2015.
