Reacting, El-Rufai’s lawyer, Ubong Akpan, condemned the action, describing it as “unlawful and a clear violation of legal procedures and fundamental rights.”
The ICPC later confirmed that El-Rufai is currently in its custody.
The move comes a day after operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) reportedly arrested the former governor shortly after he was granted bail by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
According to reports, the DSS picked him up in connection with allegations that he unlawfully intercepted the phone communications of the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu.
Authorities are yet to provide further details on the investigation.
