The Concerned Igbo Ministers Commission has condemned the ongoing detention of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), labeling it a “demonic scheme” orchestrated by South-East governors for political gain.

In a statement signed by Rev. Tony Uzo Anthony and Apostle Tony Osuji, the group urged traditional rulers, religious leaders, and the international community to denounce what they perceive as a conspiracy against the Igbo people.

The commission criticized the judiciary’s handling of Kanu’s case, noting that the presiding judge had previously acknowledged that the charges against him were politically motivated.

“Kanu remains illegally incarcerated in Nigeria, while other individuals who committed significant crimes have been released,” the statement read.

They further alleged that the South-East governors are conspiring to keep Kanu in detention until next year, suggesting this would be strategically timed to influence upcoming elections.

“We publicly accuse the governors of a scheme to detain our son, Kanu, before the end of next year and release him to help President Bola Ahmed Tinubu win the South-East and South-South states,” the statement asserted.

The commission called for action from the diaspora community, urging them to engage with international stakeholders to advocate for Kanu’s release.

They emphasized that the current security situation in the South-East is exacerbated by the governors’ actions, claiming they benefit from security votes while ignoring the region’s instability.
