Rivers State Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike, has informed his constituents that he has declined to run as Alhaji Atiku Abubakar’s running mate in the 2023 presidential election.

Wike also stated that no one can undermine the interest of the people of Nigeria’s southern region in the decision of who will fly the Peoples Democratic Party’s presidential ticket (PDP).

Wike spoke yesterday at Government House in Port Harcourt during a meeting of Rivers State stakeholders of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

He stated that he was not moving to be Vice President to anyone, and he scoffs at those who claim to be traveling the country to consult with stakeholders about their interest in the race, but they are really declaring their ambition.

Wike stated that at the appropriate time, the people of Southern Nigeria will make a bold statement, and Nigerians will know where they stand.

“Please disregard everything you’re seeing and hearing all those social media posts,” he said. The South will soon make a statement.

It’s not about who will be the vice president of this or who will be consulting for this. Nigerians will realize we are not joking when the south makes a statement.
“You’re not supposed to come out and say you’re consulting. You’ve declared that you’re consulting. Isn’t it after a consultation that you make your announcement? You have already declared, and you’re claiming to be consulting. “So, what are you consulting again?”
“And people take the South for granted, claiming that they aren’t united.” There are no issues. If we didn’t know yesterday, we do now.”

The governor stated that Southern Nigeria, particularly Rivers State, is a long-term asset to the PDP and should not be treated lightly.

“When they make up their minds to support anyone in their preferred party, everything is mobilized to achieve the desired result, according to him.

“We are valuable assets.” We are not responsible. When we say we’re going to support a political party, we mean it. We’re not in America, where you run television commercials. ” We’ll choke them when we come out. They are aware of it.

“So, everyone should take a deep breath and wait for the south to finish their homework before making a proper statement.”

Wike went on to say that because the PDP is an opposition party, it is now more important than ever for every member to forge unity within the party, build greater team spirit, and protect it from those who want to sow seeds of discord.
