IGP Approves Investigation Into Blessing CEO Over Alleged Fake Cancer Claim

Popular Nigerian social media critic Martins Vincent Otse, known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), has revealed that the Inspector General of Police (IGP) has approved an investigation into controversial relationship therapist Blessing Okoro, popularly known as Blessing CEO, following a petition over her controversial cancer claim.

The development comes after Blessing CEO sparked widespread controversy with a viral video posted on March 25, 2026, in which she tearfully claimed she had been diagnosed with stage four cancer.

In the video shared on Instagram, she also displayed noticeable hair loss, which she said was a result of the illness.

Following the announcement, Blessing CEO revealed that she had started auctioning some of her properties to raise funds for cancer treatment.

She also shared a medical report online while appealing to the public for financial assistance.

However, the situation took a different turn after the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Delta State chapter, disowned the histology report circulating online.

The association stated that the document had allegedly been altered from an original medical report belonging to another patient who had been diagnosed with breast cancer.

After facing intense backlash on social media, Blessing CEO later withdrew her initial claim.

“I don’t have stage four cancer. That was a miscommunication,” she said during an interview.

She also revealed that she received about ₦13 million in donations from supporters.

Shortly after the controversy escalated, she deactivated her social media account.

Reacting to the incident, VeryDarkMan said he personally donated money to Blessing CEO after seeing her emotional video, believing her claim at the time.

In a video posted on his Instagram page, he explained that he was moved by compassion when he saw her shave her hair.

“I believed her because she shaved her hair and I felt compassion. On that very day, I didn’t have anything left in my account, but I still transferred money to her,” he said.

VDM expressed disappointment, noting that many people genuinely battling cancer deserve empathy and support.

“There are a lot of people living with cancer. How can someone come out and joke with something like this?” he added.

VDM further revealed that he had submitted a formal petition to the police, and the Inspector General of Police has now assigned the matter for investigation.

The development has sparked widespread reactions online, with many Nigerians expressing anger and disappointment over the situation.

Some social media users said they felt deceived after donating money, while others criticised the controversy surrounding the claim.
