The Ijaw National Congress (INC) is currently holding a “solidarity rally” in support of the embattled Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara.

The rally has locked down the Rivers State capital city of Port Harcourt, with members of the INC, residents, and indigenes of Ijaw people marching towards the Rivers State Government House.

The National President of the ethnic group, Prof. Benjamen Okaba, is leading the rally.

The crisis between the Governor of the State, Siminalayi Fubara, and his erstwhile political godfather, Nyesom Wike, has led to a political imbroglio in the state.

The crisis has resulted in the defection of 26 lawmakers in the state House of Assembly from the ruling party in the state, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling party in the center, All Progressives Congress (APC).

The mass defection of the lawmakers has been followed by a gale of resignations of some Commissioners from the Rivers State Executive Council.
