  • Praise Ikweki won Nigeria’s first medal at the African U-18/U-20 Athletics Championships, taking bronze in the high jump.

  • Nigerian sprinters, including James Clifford and Adeola Muideen, advanced in the 100 m heats.

  • Mariam Jegede, Miracle Ezechukwu, and others also impressed, raising hopes for more medals.

Praise Ikweki lifted Team Nigeria’s spirits on Wednesday by claiming our first medal at the African U-18/U-20 Athletics Championships in Abeokuta.

He jumped 1.80 m through 2.00 m cleanly, then nailed 2.03 m on his third try to lock in bronze.

He couldn’t clear 2.06 m, but his podium finish fired up Nigeria’s squad.

Praise Ikweki won Nigeria’s first medal at the African U-18/U-20 Athletics Championships

The 100m heats brought non-stop action. South Africa’s Mukona Manavhela (11.38 s) and Nigeria’s James Clifford (11.44 s) sprinted into the semis.

Adeola Adeniji Muideen won Heat Two in 11.08s; Algeria’s Bouhdila Yasser followed in 11.14s.

Jayen Foure blasted Heat Three in 10.65s, with Egbon Destiny Chinedu right behind him at 10.85s.

Nigeria’s girls dominated their heats. Mariam Jegede led Heat One in 12.13s. Miracle Ezechukwu powered through Heat Two in 11.79s.

Chigozie Rosemary Nwankwo topped Heat Three.

In the U-20 women’s 100m, Lucy Nwankwo hit a personal best of 11.80s, and Success Oyibu won her heat in 11.87s.

The African U-18/U-20 Athletics Championships keeps rolling, and Nigeria’s rising stars are making waves.
