The Ijaw Youth Council (IYC), Western Zone, has raised alarm over an alleged plot by some elites in Warri Federal Constituency to incite violence following dissatisfaction with the recent Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) ward delineation exercise.
The group has called for the immediate prosecution of all those implicated in the illegal arms purchase reportedly uncovered by security operatives.
In a strongly worded press statement signed by Comrade Nicholas Igarama (Chairman), Ebi Joshua Olowolayemo Esq (Secretary), and Comrade Tare Magbei (Information Officer), the IYC Western Zone stated:
“The leadership of the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC), Western Zone, unequivocally condemns the recent actions of certain unpatriotic individuals in Warri Federal Constituency, who, dissatisfied with the outcome of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC)’s ward delineation exercise, have resorted to unlawful and dangerous measures intended to destabilize the region.”

According to the group, the Department of State Services (DSS) uncovered an alleged plot involving the illegal acquisition of over 50 AK-47 rifles, pump-action guns, and 3,000 rounds of ammunition.
“This alarming discovery is a grave indication of a plot to plunge Warri back into the dark era of violence and underdevelopment,” the statement continued.
The IYC said Ijaw youths have been “closely monitoring these unfolding events” and expressed concern over the potential consequences of such actions.
“The Ijaw people are inherently peace-loving, law-abiding, and committed to the progress and development of our communities. Any attempt to provoke violence on our land is not only unacceptable but will be actively resisted.”
Commending the DSS and other security agencies, the council insisted that the perpetrators must face justice.
“We also demand that all individuals apprehended, as well as their sponsors, be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. This must serve as a strong warning and deterrent to anyone seeking to destabilize the peace and security of Warri Federal Constituency.”
The group further alleged that similar activities have occurred in the past but were shielded from accountability due to “foreign political affiliations and backing.”
“Let it be on record that any such effort [to release the culprits] will be firmly resisted through all legal and legitimate means,” the statement warned.
The IYC also lauded INEC for adhering to a Supreme Court ruling and conducting a fresh, inclusive ward delineation exercise.

“We affirm that the resolutions agreed upon during the last stakeholders’ engagement should remain the only guiding framework in preparation for the 2027 general elections.”
The Ijaw Youth Council concluded its statement by reaffirming its commitment to peace, justice, and the development of the Niger Delta.
