Illiyah Umar Damagum: Who Is PDP’s Acting National Chairman?

The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Tuesday, appointed Iliyah Umar Damagum as its acting National Chairman.

Damagum replaced Senator Iyorchia Ayu, who was suspended owing to his alleged involvement in anti-party activities during the general election.

A Federal High Court in Makurdi had ordered Ayu to step aside as the party’s national chairman after he was suspended by the PDP Ward executives in Gboko.

Meanwhile, below are Nine (9) key things to know about the PDP acting national chairman who was, before his appointment, the Deputy National Chairman of the party.

1. Ambassador Damagum hails from Yobe State, Northeastern Nigeria

2. He is a former Nigerian ambassador to Romania

3 – The former ambassador is a dynamic administrator with experience in board politics spanning 15 years at Goldlink Insurance Plc, Abuja Investment Company Limited, Yobe State Investment, and Yobe State Housing Corporation.

4 – He holds a Master’s in Business Administration (2004)

5 – He also obtained a Post Graduate Diploma in Management and a Bachelor of Arts in Education (Economics) at the University of Maiduguri in the year 1996 and 1988, respectively.

6 – He is well versed in Banking, Economy, Diplomacy, and Public Sector Administration after participating in a series of seminars, workshops, and conferences.

7 – Damagum also holds an Honorary Diploma and Certificate issued to him by the Governing Board of Adiri, Bucharest- Romania, Iulian Antonescu Museum (Bacau-Romania), and The Family International (Timisoara-Romania).

8 – The PDP chieftain was a Council Member of the Nigerian Shippers Council from 2002 to 2004 and National Health Insurance Scheme from 2012 to 2015.

9 – Damagum was also the Managing Director/Chairman of Family Investment Nigeria Limited.
