Operatives of the Nigerian Immigration Service have arrested a suspected human trafficker.
According to reports, a woman, identified as Rukaya Hassan, 25, was arrested by the immigration service attached to the Ilela border command, Sokoto State for attempting to traffic two underage girls – Nabila Ibrahim, 17 years and her sister, Zainab Ibrahim, 15 years across the border to the Niger Republic.

Confirming the arrest in a statement on Tuesday, July 2, 2024, the command Public Relations Officer, Mohammed Abdullahi said upon interrogation, the suspect denied knowing the two underage girls ahe was travelling with to Niger.

He also added that the two underage girls have been handed to the National Agency For Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons for further investigations.
“She claimed they were handed over to her by one woman in Sokoto, named Maman Adnan who paid for their transport to Niger,” he said.
“She also claimed the woman requested her to help take the two girls to another woman in Niger, named Amina Yunusa who will give them jobs in her restaurant in Niamey.”
“According to them, they were going to Niger to resume work in a certain restaurant which they didn’t know the owner, but that their parents approved of their trip.” He added
He also added that the suspect and the victims have been handed over to the NAPTIP, Sokoto state for further investigations.
