Senate Rejects National Water Resources Bill

The Ijaw National Congress (INC) has commended the Nigerian Senate throwing out the National Water Resources Bill 2023.

Daily Report Nigeria reports that the upper chamber of the Nigerian legislature rejected the controversial bill during plenary on Tuesday.

The bill introduced by former president Muhammadu Buhari in 2017 sought to take control of water resources from states to the federal Government.

Reacting to the development, the INC National Publicity Secretary Engr. Ezonebi Oyakemeagbegha applauded the lawmakers for throwing away the ‘despicable’ bill.

Inna chat with Daily Report Nigeria on Wednesday, Ezonebi stated that there is still hope for the downtrodden seeing the federal lawmakers stand by the truth.

He added that ‘the Water Resources Bill was the most obnoxious, offensive bill meant to further enslave the Niger Delta people by using the backdoor to take their waterways. But God raised men and touched their hearts to salvage his people.

He explained that since the introduction of the Bill to the floor of the National Assembly, “the INC has not rested knowing very well that just like the Land Used Decree of 1978, this was another ploy to take what belongs to us.”

“They took our oil, they took our land, and they want to take our waterways, God forbid,” Ezeonebi emphasized.

The INC image maker also commended the courage of governors from the Niger Delta for their resolve in opposing the hostile Water Resources bill.
