A passenger plane carrying over 50 people have been declared missing minutes after it took off from Jakarta in Indonesia.

‘The Sriwaya Air Flight 182’ is learnt to be a 27-years-old Boeing 737-500.

As quoted by officials saying, contact was lost with the plane on Saturday, January 9, not long after it headed for the city of Pontianak located on the island of Borneo.

Flight tracking service, Flightradar24, reported that it lost more than 10,000 feet of attitude in less than 60 seconds and 4 minutes after taking off, while the transport ministry also claimed that the last contact made with the plane was around 2:40pm local time as efforts are ongoing to search for it.

However, Indonesia’s search and rescue agency has sent a ship to some islands to the north of Jakarta’s coast to check and ascertain the location where the plane is suspected to have lost contact.
