The Independent Electoral Commission, INEC, has announced dates for the 2023 general elections.
Professor Mahmood Yakubu, the INEC National Chairman, made the announcement at a news conference in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory, on Saturday.
According to him, presidential and National Assembly elections will now take place on Saturday, February 25, 2023, while governorship and state house of assembly elections will take place on March 11, 2023.

Yakubu explained that the new date is to ensure compliance with the provisions of the Electoral Laws, which require elections notices to be published at least 260 days before the elections.
The INEC chairman also stated that the Electoral Guidelines will be published in due course.
