The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declined to acknowledge Julius Abure as the National Chairman of the Labour Party (LP).
Daily Report Nigeria reports that the decline was even as Abure’s name appeared on INEC’s website as one of the political party chairmen.
This development was revealed in a counter-affidavit filed in the Federal High Court Abuja in response to the Labour Party’s lawsuit contesting its exclusion from INEC’s refresher training for uploading party agents in preparation for the Edo and Ondo states governorship elections.

Since June of this year, the Labour Party has been embroiled in a new leadership dispute, stemming from the party’s Anambra state congress, which extended the tenure of the Julius Abure-led executive until 2023.
This decision has been met with scepticism from various party members, including the former deputy chairman, Callistus Okafor, the governor of Abia State Alex Otti, and the 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, who recently convened a national Congress in an attempt to resolve the deadlock.
