The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has dismissed a viral graphic claiming that it fixed March 26 as the deadline for government officials seeking elective office to resign.

In a statement on Friday, the electoral body described the circulating notice as false and misleading, stressing that it did not originate from the commission.

INEC said it has not issued any announcement regarding such a resignation deadline, urging members of the public, media organisations and political stakeholders to ignore the message.

The commission also advised Nigerians to verify election-related information through its official website, verified social media platforms and authorised press releases, warning against the spread of unverified electoral information.

INEC reaffirmed its commitment to providing accurate, timely and transparent information to the public on electoral matters.
