INEC Officially Recognizes Julius Abure as Labour Party National Chairman | Daily Report Nigeria

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially acknowledged Barrister Julius Abure as the National Chairman of the Labour Party (LP), following a Federal High Court ruling in Abuja.

This decision comes in the wake of Justice Emeka Nwite’s ruling on October 8, 2024, which validated the Labour Party’s national convention held in Nnewi in March 2024.

The court deemed the convention lawful and mandated INEC to recognize Abure and the newly elected National Working Committee (NWC).

INEC’s acknowledgment was conveyed in a letter addressed to Abure and the party’s National Secretary, Alhaji Umar Farouk Ibrahim. In the letter, INEC’s Secretary, Rose Oriaran-Anthony, invited the Labour Party to participate in its fourth consultative meeting with political parties.

Ibrahim called for unity within the party under Abure’s leadership, describing past internal disagreements as “merely a family matter.” He asserted that the party has emerged stronger from the resolution, urging members to collaborate towards rebuilding confidence in the Labour Party.

“This is not a situation of victory or defeat. We are all winners, and the supremacy of the party must guide every member as we work towards achieving the party’s goals,” he added.
