INEC unveils candidates’ particulars for August 8 Osun governorship election

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has released the names and personal particulars of candidates for the August 8, 2026 governorship election in Osun State.
Among those cleared is Governor Ademola Adeleke, who retained his current deputy as his running mate for the poll.

Details published by INEC on Monday also showed that the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Oyebamiji, picked former lawmaker Tunde Olatunji as his deputy.
Olatunji previously represented Ife North State Constituency in the Osun State House of Assembly.
The only female governorship candidate in the race is Adeagbo Yemisi of the Action Democratic Party (ADP).
Two parties — the Boot Party and the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) — selected women as running mates.

Adesoji Masilo of the Boot Party chose Aresa Adenike, while NNPP candidate Adeleke Adewale named Adeyera Adesola as his deputy.
The African Action Congress (AAC) listed Esan Abeeb as governorship candidate, with Bello Muideen as running mate.
Olanrewaju Farinloye and Fadahunsi Olaniyi emerged as candidate and running mate of the Action Alliance (AA).
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) cleared Najeem Salaam as its candidate, alongside Popoola Tajudeen as deputy.
Adewale Adebayo will contest on the platform of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), with Jimoh Naheem as his running mate.
INEC disclosed that 14 political parties met the requirements and had their candidates’ names published.
However, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Labour Party (LP), Social Democratic Party (SDP), National Rescue Movement (NRM) and Youth Party were omitted from the published list.
In a statement signed by the Osun INEC Public Affairs Officer, Musa Olurode, the commission said the cleared parties complied within the stipulated timeframe.
“In accordance with Section 29(3) of the Electoral Act 2022 and as provided in the Timetable and Schedule of Activities for the Osun State Governorship Election, the commission has published the personal particulars of candidates and their running mates (Form EC9),” the statement read in part.
The August 8 election is expected to witness participation from parties including Accord, Action Peoples Party (APP), All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), Young Progressive Party (YPP) and Zenith Labour Party (ZLP), among others.
