INEC has stated that it has not yet fixed a date for the by-elections to fill vacant seats in the National and State Assemblies.

The Senate and House of Representatives have both urged INEC to act, following multiple vacancies, including in Edo Central and Anambra South Senatorial Districts.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has clarified that no date has been scheduled yet for the by-elections to fill several vacant seats in both the National Assembly and State Houses of Assembly.
Speaking to newsmen, INEC’s Director of Voter Education and Publicity, Victoria Eta-Messi, said, “No date has been fixed yet for the by-elections. Soon hopefully.”

This comes after the Senate passed a resolution urging the electoral body to conduct elections for the vacant senatorial seats in Edo Central and Anambra South.
Also, the House of Representatives had in February directed its committee on Electoral Matters to summon INEC for an explanation over the delays. Five seats are currently vacant in the Green Chamber, including Edo’s Ovia North/South Federal Constituency and others affected by the deaths of sitting lawmakers in Jigawa, Kaduna, Oyo, and Ogun states.
