A fire outbreak has gutted the radio studio of Ajayi Crowther University in Oyo State, wiping out equipment and property worth millions of naira in an incident that shook the academic community on Monday.

According to eyewitness accounts, the blaze was sparked by an electrical surge from the studio’s air-conditioning system and quickly spread before fire crews reached the scene.

The inferno ravaged the studio facility, forcing emergency teams into an extensive operation to halt further damage.

Confirming the incident, the Chairman of the Oyo State Fire Service, Maroof Akinwande, said the firefighters, led by PFS 11 Makinde, responded swiftly and battled the flames to prevent escalation. “When they arrived, the studio was engulfed in flames and smoke. They managed to stop the fire from spreading to other areas. No casualty was recorded, and we were able to save properties worth millions of naira,” he stated.

The fire service boss further urged members of the public to keep fire extinguishers handy and use them promptly to control minor outbreaks before they spiral.

The incident adds to a troubling series of recent fires across Oyo State. Just last month, Fresh 105.9 FM in Ibadan was hit by an outbreak that gutted parts of its headquarters, and in July, five shops were reduced to ashes in the state capital.
