The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has asked President Bola Tinubu to seek both local and international assistance to address worsening insecurity in the country or resign from office.

The call was issued in a statement on Sunday by the party’s fractional National Publicity Secretary, Ini Ememobong, who criticised the administration over the rising cases of mass abductions, particularly in Northern states.

The PDP said the spate of kidnappings has left families and communities in “sorrows, tears, blood and deep anguish,” accusing the federal government of failing to provide leadership or direction.

It faulted the consideration of school closures as a security measure, warning that doing so would amount to yielding ground to terrorists whose aim is to stop children from receiving formal education.

The party insisted that shutting schools would inadvertently advance the objectives of terrorist groups that have repeatedly targeted educational institutions.

It also accused the administration of responding to major security incidents with “lacklustre and unempathetic” actions.

The PDP urged the federal government to fund and immediately implement the National Policy on Safety, Security and Violence-Free Schools, which it said relies on community intelligence and rapid security response to prevent attacks.

According to the party, the Tinubu administration must accept that the protection of lives and property is the primary responsibility of government.

“When any government is unwilling or incapable of performing this duty, it must seek help—locally or internationally—or honourably resign,” the statement added.
