Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has warned the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) over its call for singing of Biafra anthem in all schools in the South-East.

The Ohanaeze Ndigbo group faulted IPOB for the ban it placed on the Nigeria national anthem across the zone.

IPOB in its New Year message prohibited the consumption of non-native cows as well as Nigerian national anthem.

A statement by Ohanaeze Ndigbo Secretary-General, Okechukwu Isiguzoro, said, the group cautioned that such a directive would create problem for the people of the South-East.

The statement read, “This new plan to ban Nigeria National Anthem will affect the ongoing diplomatic efforts to free Nnamdi Kanu. Instead, the Federal Government might unleash bitterness on the South-East.

“This order is also nonetheless destructive to the campaign for the Igbo presidency in 2023 and will give birth to avoidable military raids on all public schools in South-Eastern Nigeria, with the ongoing ‘Operation Golden Dawn’.

“Reciting Biafran Anthem instead of Nigerian Anthem in schools in the East is forbidden and prohibited as South-East is still a part of Nigeria.

“We cannot mislead and misinform our pupils into moving into the path that will attract deadly consequences for the South-East.

“Indigenous People Of Biafra should join Ohanaeze Ndigbo in the promotion of Igbo language, cultural heritage, and values in all South-East schools. This is the best way to get our youngsters to remain committed and imbibe the cultural values and heritage of Ndigbo.”

The Ohanaeze, however, threw their weight behind the ban on the consumption of cows from the North.

“The recent security challenges in South-Eastern Nigeria are created by killer herdsmen pretending as cattlemen to perpetrate evil onslaught against our local communities.

“The enforcement of the ban on consumption of Fulani cattle should be a protest against unhealthy and disease-infested cows being sold to the South-East,” the statement added.
